Peter Curren Valentine, age 64, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, he grew up in Upper Montclair, where he made lifelong friends and memories as the quarterback at Montclair Kimberley Academy. Peter moved to Midland Park with his wife and children 30 years ago. An avid sports fan and history enthusiast, he held a special passion for football (an "ex" Jets fan), golf, and Abraham Lincoln. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and compassion.
Peter earned M.L.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Rutgers University and a B.A. degree in history from Gettysburg College. During the span of his career he worked for Prudential and Lowenstein Sandler, making meaningful and lasting friendships along the way. He was working in Competitive Intelligence Research at Ropes & Gray at the time of his passing. Peter is survived by his adoring wife, Nancy (nee Helmke), and children, Patrick and Emily, and older brother, Richard Valentine of North Brunswick, NJ. He was predeceased by his brother Charles, of Poway, CA. A memorial service will be held July 27, 2:00 pm, at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Ridgewood, NJ. A private cremation was held on Friday, July 5. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Union of Concerned Scientists, https://www.ucsusa.org, or the National Parks Conservation Association, https://www.npca.org, would be appreciated.

I am truly saddened to hear of Pete's passing, and I extend my condolences to his wife, children and family. Pete and I were Phi Psi fraternity brothers at Gettysburg College, and I will always remember him as a kind, decent, caring individual. Most of all, he had a ready smile and wonderful sense of humor, and was well liked by all. Our paths would occasionally cross in the many years after college, but I regret that it didn't happen more often. The world has lost a special man, and I pray that memories serve as consolation to his entire family and all who knew Pete.
