Philip Dutton "Phil" Whitacre, 77, of Bloomery, WV, pass away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Phil was born on January 3, 1948, in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Roy R. and Ivy V. Whitacre. He was a 1966 graduate of Hampshire High School, worked for Crown, Cork & Seal in Winchester, VA for 47 ½ years and with Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory for five years. He was a member of the Timber Ridge Christian Church in High View, WV. Phil enjoyed bluegrass music, woodworking, mowing, especially helping his son with Whitacre's Lawn Care, helping people and being with his family.
Phil married Joan Hite Whitacre on February 11, 1966 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving with his wife of 59 years is a son: Paul P. Whitacre (Carolyn) of Bloomery, WV; a daughter: Julie W. Omps (Rodney) of Temecula, CA; a sister: Patty Whitacre of Whiteville, NC; three grandchildren: Katherine E. Mitchell (Joee), Morgan R. Omps & Charles P. Whitacre and two great-grandchildren: Myles Gibson Whitacre & Lily Marie Mitchell
He is preceded in death by three brothers: Roy Whitacre, Jr., Allen Whitacre & Ricky Whitacre and two sisters: Debra Puffinberger & Dorleen Whitacre.
A funeral service will be held at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Vanderlinden. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Gore, VA.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 5-8 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane Kearneysville, WV 25430.
