THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF PHILLIP H. GOLDBERG.
Loving Father & Protector to ALL
WOLCOTT – Phillip H. Goldberg age 54 of Wolcott, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven Sunday December 19, 2021 surrounded by the LOVE of his family and close friends at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with thyroid cancer. He was the beloved fiancé of Rosi Arvelo, who stood by his side as a loving caregiver and amazing advocate.
Phil was born on June 28th 1967 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Phillip M. and Faune M. (Bianco) Goldberg. He was raised in Wolcott and graduated from Wolcott High School where he played baseball and football. Phil had worked as an HVAC Technician for All American, the City of Waterbury and as a Federal Protective Security Officer for American Eagle Protective Services - US Department of Homeland Security National Protection, before starting a career as a Correctional Officer. Phil always sought roles that challenged him and he thrived in his position at the State of Connecticut Department of Correction where he served at MacDougall Walker Correctional Institution and more recently at the Garner Correctional Institution. The DOC embraced him into their brotherhood where he was always treated like family. When informed of his illness their stance was "No One Fights Alone". He was well known as "GOLDBERG", "G" or "Philly".
He would say his sons are his greatest accomplishments and put in the time and effort to ensure it. He was particularly proud of his son Zack who continues to exceed his every expectation. He was elated when Zack graduated from college and was recently accepted into the DOC Academy. Phil looked forward to Zack's daily visits or calls to discuss his training stories. Phil encouraged Zack to pursue his career and discussed how fascinated he was with the work of the K-9 Unit at the facility.
His youngest son Jaxon aka "Action Jaxon" age 2 was his pride and joy. He's characterized similarly to his Dad because of his tenacity, strong will and playfulness. Phil adored his time with Jaxon and went above and beyond to make his birthdays special with the help of his close friends and family. He especially loved to run his big hands through Jaxon's curls.
Phil's other passions were working out at the gym, sports, target shooting and challenging friends to a game of golf. He was a passionate coach, during Zack's youth, coaching basketball and baseball. His best memories came with the Black Storm back-to-back Basketball Championships. He also was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan.
Phil took great pride in his work, was a neat freak and very much a man of his word. He was a charmer but loved to joke around with all his family and friends. He had a great heart and was always willing to help others. He was very direct, one thing for certain, with Phil you always knew where you stood! If Phil made a promise, it was a guarantee.
Phil was very loyal and devoted, to those he loved and cared about. He would move mountains for you, unconditionally. David and Paige were always protected by Phil, if ever a dispute or need, he was there to save them. He also played a fatherly role and spent many cherished years and special Holidays with Chris and Daniel.
Besides his soulmate and fiancé Rosi, he leaves to honor and cherish his memory, his sons; Zack Goldberg of Waterbury, Jaxon Goldberg of Watertown, Chris Madden of Watertown and Daniel Viacava of Watertown. He also leaves his brother, David Goldberg and his wife, Brenda of Wolcott and his sister, Paige Goldberg of Wolcott. In addition, Phil also leaves his nephews and nieces: Anthony Temple, Ty Goldberg, and Leah Goldberg as well as other extended family members and many friends.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone for their support and contributions. Words can not express our appreciation to family, friends and the Department of Correction for the outpouring generosity of love during this most difficult time.
In lieu of flowers a donation can made for the benefit of Phil's children via Paige Goldberg.

Phil was a guy that worked for me at F.F. Hitchcock. He was a great guy to work with. Always talked highly of his brother and his business. I actually ended up with his car because he did not want to deal with it. I actually did a repair for him on his p.c.. Loved his fiance and kids, no doubt.

I have so many memories and stories of Phil that It would be too hard to pick just one.
Phil was a loyal friend. He was a defender and protector to all of us whom he called family and friends. It didn´t matter where he was or what he was doing. If one of us needed help Phil was always there right or wrong no questions asked. Whenever he voiced his opinion or gave advise it was always brutally honest. Never pulled any punches. He was the real deal, a true warrior and always on overwatch for us.
A man among men and and always honored to call him my friend. I know I speak for all his friends when I say you will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
So rest easy my friend, It´s time for us to protect your memory and legacy.
To the family: Im so sorry for your loss. Death cannot kill what never dies like deep love and memories. Those memories and that love is forever a part of all of us.

Knowing Phil was special enough but being his friend made you feel like you were cool and important. We would all agree that he was the toughest kid there was and that everyone knew him. I am so fortunate that Phil trusted me enough to help him navigate through the last few months and staying positive. I'm gonna miss you Philly G. Breathe easy now, my friend.
