Phillip John Skraba, 74, of Masonville, Colorado, passed away on June 23, 2024. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1950, Phil spent his grammar school years in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from Warwick Valley Central High School in 1968. Phil fell in love with Colorado when he visited as a Boy Scout, so after high school he attended Colorado State University (CSU) where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and Master of Arts in 1974.
In 1974, Phil married Bernice in New York after dating for six years. In 1983, Phil built his dream home near Horsetooth Reservoir where they have lived for the past 40 years and raised many labs, quarter horses and cattle. They enjoyed sitting on their deck admiring the birds, squirrels, and turkeys. Bernice and Phil shared a passion for travel and adventure creating countless memories together.
Phil dedicated over 25 years to his career at Hewlett Packard (HP), where he held positions in sales and business development. Phil was a strategic thinker and respected leader at HP who developed and nurtured high performing teams. Phil was the driving force in starting the OEM Storage business at HP and introducing HP storage into the commercial distribution channels. Later in his career, Phil accelerated HP's sales of storage media business in the indirect channel.
However, his true passions lay beyond his professional life. He embraced every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Phil loved fishing in Alaska, hunting, sailing the Caribbean, skiing, and golfing. He raced Formula-V cars with the SCCA holding many wins in the early 80's. Phil shared his passions with his daughter by being actively involved in the 4-H club and teaching her how to ski at three. The family created years of memories skiing at their second home in Steamboat Springs and he loved volunteering for the ski area and the SSWSC.
Phil is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bernice; his daughter, Maryann Skraba-Wittmann (husband, Andy); his grandson, and chocolate lab.
A celebration of life will be held this coming fall. Phil will be deeply missed by all who knew him but the memories will remain in our hearts.
Memorial donations in Phil's name may be made to: Pathways, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525. Visit www.kibbeyfishburn.com to sign the guestbook
