Phillipo J. Casamento, 91, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.
Born on June 23, 1933, in Norwich, he was the son of Joseph and Grace (Raffaele) Casamento. After graduating from Norwich High School, Phil joined the United States Army where he served honorably for four years. Upon his return to Norwich, he began a career with the Norwich Pharmacal Company in the packaging. He retired in 1995 with Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals.
Phil was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Norwich. While in school, he was active with both 4-H and the Future Farmers of America. When his children were growing up, Phil was their Cub Scout Troop Leader, was a swimming official for Norwich High School, and chaperoned for the Norwich High School Marching Band. Phil enjoyed working outside. In his later years he enjoyed learning about local history, traveled to the many cities and towns named Norwich, and was an avid reader. Phil enjoyed a weekly game of dominoes.
On June 21, 1958, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Phillipo married Rosemary Portelli, who predeceased him on March 3, 2011. Phil is survived by his sons and their wives, Frank and Lori Casamento of Syracuse NY, Tim Casamento and Kleo King of Southold NY, and Mike Casamento and Bob Myers of Kirkwood NY; three grandchildren, Kyle (Cindy) Casamento , Phillip (Lauren) Casamento, Caleb Casamento, and; great grandchildren, Tessa Casamento, Owen Casamento, and a soon-to-be great granddaughter; and sisters; V. Jane Casamento, of Ghent NY, Lucy (John) Messina, of Salisbury NC, and Patricia (Thomas) Messina, of Ghent NY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Clara (Joe) Martino and Josephine Casamento.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Phillipo will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Norwich, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Burial will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery in the spring of 2025.
