Phyllis A. Aavang, 66 of McHenry/Woodstock passed away at Ignite Nursing Center surrounded by family on Saturday, August 16, 2025 after a long illness.

Phyllis was born in Woodstock on April 30, 1959 to Victor and Marilyn Aavang, nee Rawson. She grew up on a dairy farm, attending Woodstock schools and graduating from Woodstock High School. Phyllis attended Rockford College graduating with a degree in psychology. For a time, she worked in medical offices and volunteered at a crisis helpline. Phyllis began a daycare business out of her home and began assisting in the Foster Children program. Illness forced her to cease daycare activities and to move to assisted living. As her physical condition worsened Phyllis moved to Ignite Nursing Center in McHenry. Besides caring for children, Phyllis enjoyed singing in the choir at Grace Lutheran Church of Woodstock and playing bells with the Church group. Hot air balloons fascinated her as did rainbows. Animals were special to Phyllis and she had numerous cats over the years and cocker spaniels, Teddy and Corky. At Ignite Phyllis had a bird feeder outside her room window so she could enjoy the numerous birds that would come for a meal.

Phyllis is survived by her brothers, David Aavang, Michael (Heidi) Aavang and Dale (Donna Koenig) Aavang and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis is also survived by 2 foster children she adopted, Nichole Aavang and Nicholas Aavang and their children.
