Phyllis J. Collins, 95, Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Bellin Hospital, where she had worked for over 22 years taking care of people as a Nurse's Aid, but now it was her time to be cared for. Phyllis was born on October 9, 1928, in Pensaukee, the daughter of the now late McKinley and Ione (Whitcomb) Cool. She was a graduate of Oconto High School with the class of 1948. Phyllis had many interests and hobbies in her long life and always wanted to make a difference for others. She was a foster parent, caring for many infants until they could be placed in permanent homes. Phyllis was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2047 where she volunteered and held multiple leadership roles. She helped establish the now dis-banded Railroad Auxiliary, holding offices of President, Secretary and emeritus President. Some of the items from the club are on display at the Green Bay Railroad Museum. Phyllis served as President of the Green Bay Singles Club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, embroidery/knitting, crossword puzzles and loved animals and often served as a pet-sitter for family and friends. Phyllis was an accomplished ballroom dancer and she loved listening to and dancing to Polka music. Bowling was a lifelong favorite of hers and she bowled on a league into her eighties. She was a proud 21+ gallon blood donor. Phyllis loved her Green Bay Packers and she was a proud season ticket holder since before Lambeau Field was built, when the team played games at GB East High School. And if all of the above mentioned items was not enough, in her down time she enjoyed watching TV, especially Days of Our Lives, NASCAR, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Jackie (Rudy) Kapla, Jay (Michele) Collins, Thomas (Kyle) Collins, Lori (Rick) Socha, 11 grandchildren: Leslie, James, Vaughan, Delaney, Mack, Samantha, Robert, Olivia, Allyson, Collin, and Sierra, 4 great-grandchildren: Dustin, Ethan, Coraline and Marcileen. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernon Belongia and Robert Collins and son, Larry Belongia.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Thursday, October 24th, 2024 at Hamlet Creek, 3562 Finger Road. A Prayer Service will be held at 3:00 P.M.
The family would like to offer a warm note of appreciation to the staff of Bellevue Senior Living Community and especially to the staffs of Bellin Hospital, 4th floor and Unity Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
