Rayburn Lewis Hestand, 92, of Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Saturday, April 26th, peacefully, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.
Rayburn was born in Hestand, KY on April 10, 1933, a son of the late Delma (Slaughter) and Dumas Maxey Hestand.
He was a longtime member of Tompkinsville First Baptist Church. He served his country honorably during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. After returning home, he dedicated over 40 years of his life to Key Work Clothes before retiring.
Rayburn found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, he was often found working on lawnmowers, riding motorcycles, or hunting for dry land fish. He enjoyed barbecuing, cooking, and tending to his garden. Wheel of Fortune was a nightly favorite, and a ride in his baja was one of his greatest pastimes. He especially enjoyed going to Glasgow to eat and thrift shop. But perhaps his favorite place of all was right in his own yard, sitting outside and "cooling his heels."
He married Alma Loraine Bowman on December 24, 1962 in Celina, TN. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2010.
Rayburn is survived by three daughters, Tammie Brown, of Glasgow, KY; Bonnie Hestand, of Tompkinsville, KY; Lorrie Clarkson, and husband, Michael of Tompkinsville, KY; a son, Lewis Hestand, and wife, Stephanie of Tompkinsville, KY; six grandchildren, Brookie Walden, and husband, Chad, Kara Dickerson, Logan Hestand, Orry Hestand, and wife, Lyla, Abby Clarkson and Aiden Clarkson; two great grandchildren, Kennedy Walden and Jeron Colello.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dumas & Delma Hestand; wife, Loraine Hestand; grandson, Chad Brown; brothers, Cleburn and Bobby; sisters, Neva Walden, Imelda Wood, Idell Mitchell and Francis Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30th at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Monroe County Memorial Lawn.
Visitation is Tuesday, 5:00-8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
