Raymond Vincent Fanning, a devoted family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Valhalla, NY, at the age of 74. He was born on July 12, 1950, in Tuckahoe, NY, to the late Joseph and Gloria (Oswald) Fanning. Raymond's life was a testament to the values of love, hard work, and dedication.
Raymond grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and then built one of his own. He is survived by his children, Michael John Fanning (Lisa), Mindi Rae Garner (Mark), and Caitlin Jean Fanning who was the light of his life and greatest joy. He was predeceased by his siblings Mickey/Joseph, Robert, and Barbara. He is survived by his siblings William (Judy), James (Donna), and Carol (Kim) as well as in-laws Vicky wife of Mickey and Mike husband of Barbara. He is also survived by four grandchildren Jack, Samantha, Andrew and Corey, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Most of Raymond's professional life was dedicated to the Millwright Union 740 in Woodhaven, NY with some of his last projects working at JFK airport terminals and UPS distribution center in Manhattan. After retiring he became a devoted member of the West Point No. 877 Masonic Lodge participating in many philanthropic and brotherhood events.
Raymond's dream of becoming a Merchant Marine, like his father and grandfather before him, did not happen, but his love of the sea lasted a lifetime. He became a PADI Scuba Instructor and loved to dive in the Caribbean (never as happy as pulling a bull shark's tail), NC Outerbanks on both ship and submarine wrecks, along with cave and ice diving specialties. He more recently got his sailboat captain's license and enjoyed sailing the Hudson with his brother-in-law Mike, his favorite niece Billie-Anne and her sister Jamie, as well as Caitlin. This past fall he had a most wonderful time cruising and fishing with 19 family members.
His journey through life was a remarkable one, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his presence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.
