Raymond Yoakum Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 16, 2025.
FORT WORTH - Raymond Edmond Yoakum passed away on January 9, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, in Mount Olivet Chapel, 2301 North Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76111; visitation will begin at 11:15 a.m., prior to the service.
Raymond was born September 15, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents, Joe and Lois (Bayless) Yoakum. He married Carol (Wright) Yoakum on June 3, 1967, and was a member of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills, Texas.
Raymond graduated from Haltom High School in 1963, and received his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
Raymond's first job was for Alta Vista Airport in Keller, where he learned how to fly an airplane. During the Vietnam conflict, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a lieutenant. He completed rigorous training at the top of his class and worked out of Jacksonville, Florida, with the VP5 squadron as a naval air navigator, specializing in the P3 aircraft submarine hunter in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans.
After leaving the military, he pursued a degree in accounting at UTA and completed all four parts of the CPA exam on his first attempt. As his career progressed, he led several companies throughout Texas and Louisiana. He served as vice president of AMARCO Resources Corporation and On the Border Café, and as the chief financial officer for B&S Underwriters and Reliant Holdings, Ltd.
Throughout his life, Raymond had a desire to learn and was an avid reader of biographies and books about World War II. He enjoyed photographing both airplanes and nature, listening to classical music, and watching musicals. He was an avid football enthusiast. During the sermons he heard at church, he was known to take copious notes.
He loved spending time teasing his wife and two daughters, passing on his interests, playing board games with the family, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities.
Raymond was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela (Yoakum) Harrison, of Lamesa; his parents, Joe and Lois Yoakum, of Fort Worth; and his brother, Mike Yoakum, of Fort Worth.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Yoakum, of Fort Worth; daughter, Amy (Mack) Zimmerman, of Haslet; grandchildren, Matthew (Nicole) Harrison, Garland Mack Zimmerman and fiancée, Alexis Russell, Jake (Julia) Zimmerman, Molly Harrison, and Melanie Harrison; and their great-grandson, Levi Harrison. He also is survived by his sister, Marilyn Lambert, of Weatherford; her children, Adam (Erica) Lambert and Megan Lambert and fiancé, Mark Evatt; brother-in-law, Lee Wright; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Betty (Wright) Spurgin; and their daughter, Catherine Spurgin.

Raymond and I would sit on the high school steps after lunch and "debate" different topics in the name of good fun. One of the best and finest friends during my high school years.
