HALTOM CITY - Gary Wayne Earp, 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Gary was born July 16, 1946, to Virgil and Laverne Earp in Bowie, Texas. Gary grew up in Haltom City and graduated from Haltom High School in 1964. He attended college at the University of North Texas and East Texas State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in science. Gary attended Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1973.
Gary was Board Certified in Family Practice and spent most of his 50-year career in private practice in Fort Worth. He also served as Director of Medical Education at Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital, was a faculty member for the Family Practice Residency Program at Texas Tech Medical Center Lubbock, and later in his career he enjoyed travel assignments with the Veterans Administration and Indian Health Services. Dr. Earp was known to his colleagues, residents, medical students, nurses, and patients as a compassionate and caring physician, educator, and friend.
For those who had the opportunity to know Gary, he was full of life, charm, and humor. Gary loved the outdoors and lived life to the fullest. Hobbies throughout his life included: scuba diving, sailing, flying, snow skiing, camping, fishing, horseback riding, cutting horses, roping (header and healer), cooking, and last but not least riding his Harley. He was active with the Lonestar Cruisers motorcycle riding club, where he enjoyed teaching new riders and planning and coordinating group road trips. Most of all, Gary enjoyed the company of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Laverne Earp; and his beloved brother, Larry Earp.
Gary is survived by his sister, Beverly Stapleton and nephew, Tony Stapleton; daughters, Shelly Earp and Andrea Owen and her spouse, Jerry; grandchildren, Kaylee Timms and her spouse Shay Hopkins, Peyton Timms, Hannah Key and her spouse, William, Ryann Logan and Maci Baity; six great-grandchildren; longtime girlfriend, Robin Griffin; bonus son, Grant Griffin and his spouse, Lezlie; and bonus grandsons, Jonah and Everett Griffin.
Graveside Service will be on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, located at 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76111. Viewing at 3:00 p.m., services begin at 3:30 p.m. Celebration of Life will follow in the Fort Worth Stockyards at Los Vaqueros, 2513 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth, TX. 76164, 817-624-1511 at 5:00 p.m. Fajita dinner will be served.
