Richard A. Coy, 87, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Daviess County native was born July 25, 1938, to the late William T. Coy and Clara Elizabeth McNulty Coy. Richard graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School with the class of 1957, where he played basketball on the team that went to State. After graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years before retiring with the rank of MMCS. Richard was a Vietnam Veteran. He was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center as Company Commander and served on the USS Dyess, USS Suribachi, USS Alamo, and the USS New Jersey. After his military service in 1976, Richard worked in maintenance at Alcoa and retired in 2000. He always enjoyed fixing things and producing solutions to problems. His wife, Mary would dream up a project and Richard created it. Richard was a devoted member of the Fleet Reserve for over 30 years. He loved talking to people anywhere and anytime.
In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Teresa Coy and son-in-law, Alan Adkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Mary Ruth O’Neill Coy; two daughters, Elizabeth Adkins and fiance’ Garry Gard of Owensboro, and Pamela Holcomb and husband, Dale of Louisville; four grandchildren, Cris Bice (Ashley), Sara Bice (Adam), Barry Adkins, and Rachel Adkins; seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Joe) Horn and Charlene (Tom) Jones.
The funeral Mass will be noon Wednesday, November 12 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with same day visitation from 9:00 am at the church until the time of the service. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Pius X Building Fund, 3418 KY 144 ,Owensboro, KY 42303.
