Richard Alan Dorrell, age 70, of rural Marceline, Mo, passed away peacefully from cancer on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on July 21, 1954, in Marceline, MO, the son of Clarence and Ruby Billups Dorrell. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, and graduate of the Marceline High School Class of 1972.
Richard was united in marriage to Diane Huffman Morton on December 16, 1982. Together they had 5 children, 2 from other relationships
Richard was a hardworking man from a young age, farming and doing chores. After High School he became a lifelong carpenter, leaving his mark all around. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends having a good laugh, riding around the block with anyone who would give him a ride, putting in his garden with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Taking people his produce, hunting game or morels, fishing for catfish, getting stuck in the mud, and riding anything with wheels just to watch the tires spin all with a natty light in hand and a cool cig in his mouth. But mostly Richard enjoyed sitting in his chair outside and taking in his view from God.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Clarence, mother Ruby, and brother Donald Lee.
Survived by his wife Diane, six sons Robert Waterfield, Jesse Dorrell of Kansas City, Mo, Steven Morton (Shelly) of Hannibal, Mo, Joseph, Jeremiah, and Jacob all of Marceline, Mo, and one daughter Desiree Baty (Nick) of Sunrise Beach, Mo. He has many grandchildren, Hayden Waterfield, Destiny, Summer, and Austin Morton. Abel, Jaxon, and Preslee Dorrell. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters; Sylvia Sportsman, Phyllis Lockwood (Kirk) both of Marceline, Mo. Marilyn Bixenman (Jim) of New Cambria, Jerry (Kara), Ben (Barbara), James (Cindy) of Marceline, Lloyd (Barbara) of Rawlins, Wyoming. Along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 2 to 6 pm at the OK Tavern, 126 E. Howell Ave, Marceline, MO 64658. Memorials are suggested to the Bethany Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline, MO.
