Richard Wallace Fleming

Richard "Dick" W. Fleming of Wenham passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on August 30th. He was born in Marblehead, MA to the late Wallace and Marie Fleming.
Dick grew up in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1960. He went on to study English at Norwich University, graduating with the class of 1964.
Following his education, Dick entered the US Army in 1965, where he was stationed in Germany as a tank unit commander, 2nd Lieutenant and among his many honors he received the National Defense Service Medal.
After serving as a tank commander in Germany, Dick joined Honeywell for what turned out to be a 35-year career. Initially hired as a sales rep, Dick became Vice President of US Sales & Marketing, receiving many awards along the way.
Dick volunteered for Senior Care and for many years was an assessor for the town of Wenham.
For over three decades Dick and his family were avid skiers at Sunday River in Maine, forming many lifelong friendships. He enjoyed summer activities in the area including golfing and hiking. In addition to skiing, golfing, and hiking, he was a passionate reader with a strong interest in military history.
Dick had a keen sense of humor that paired well with his love for red wine, and he could often be found bantering with his son Ryan over one liners and a particularly good Cabernet. He loved local sports teams, especially the 80's Celtics and the Patriots dynasty. Dick also loved his dogs over the years and in his final days his dog Keeva often visited.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Pat Fleming; son Ryan Fleming and his wife Cristal of Salem; daughter Lauren Fleming of Hudson, FL; beloved sister Nancy Draves and her husband David of Marblehead; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was the fond brother-in-law of Eileen and Dennis Curtin of Shirley, NY, Tom and Darla Gahan of Riverhead, NY, and Bob and Linda Gahan of Beverly.
In addition to his parents, Richard was Predeceased by his sister Marie Arthurs.
Visiting hours will be held at Campbell Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday September 11th at 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915. In accordance with Richard's wishes, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library at 14 Union Street, South Hamilton, MA 01982.
