Richard W. Glass, age 94, of Fairview, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2022. He was born October 28, 1927 in Franklin, PA, son of Dorrance B. Glass and Ina Oscilla Glass. He attended Erie public schools and graduated from Academy High School. He enlisted in the army in 1946 and served in Osaka, Japan. He attended Gannon University then transferred to Baldwin-Wallace University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951.

Upon graduation, Richard joined General Electric, and was drafted again in 1953 during the Korean war after which he joined Erie Resistor Corp., later renamed Erie Technological Products. In 1957 he joined Altman-Hall Associates as an account executive and in 1966 purchased the majority interest in the company following the passing of its cofounders Gordon Altman and Ray Hall, both having died the same year. He served as company president for 34 years and later became chairman.

The Chief, as he was affectionately known, was a life-long golf enthusiast. He grew up playing at Glenwood Golf Course and played for both Gannon and BW. He had a fun-loving spirit and was blessed to have many great friends, enjoying countless good-times in the Kahkwa grillroom and in Marco Island, FL.

Dick served as the president of the Erie Advertising Club, was selected Man of the Year in 1967 and later awarded the George Mead Distinguished Service Award. He was past president of Sertoma Club, a former member of Rotary Club, Hamot Board of Corporators, the Erie Conference on County Development and was a member of The Agency Group (TAG), a national advertising agency organization. Dick was a member of the Newcomen Society and served two terms on the Kahkwa Club Board of Governors. During his 60 year tenure at Altman-Hall, the company serviced the marketing communications activities for many of the region's major corporations.

Chief loved being involved in his two son's lives, whether as a coach, fan or golf swing critic. Although never playing hockey, he became a youth hockey coach and eventually founded and coached his boys to PA state championships with Fairview Hockey. Grampa was just as interested in his grandchildren's lives, a fixture in the stands at soccer games, swim meets, theater productions and behind the net at hockey games.

Dick was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Elaine (Voss) Glass, brother, John G. Glass, and brother and sister-in-law's Ralph and Charlotte Shultz. Survivors include sons Timothy R. Glass and wife Peggy, Matthew D. Glass and wife Kelley, his sister Jean (Glass) Steadman. He is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren: Lauren, Ryan, Samuel, Maggie, and Elliott and his husband Patrick; a great grandson Kit McGettigan-Glass, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful team of caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care and also Heartland Hospice, with a special heartfelt thank you to John.

Viewing hours will be held at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation at Funeral Services, 3801 West 26th St. on Friday, March 25th from 3-6pm. The funeral service will be held privately with the family on Saturday, March 26th with Rev. Dr. James Bernhardt officiating and burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
