Richard Lovelace Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierre Funeral Home on Oct. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Richard David "Herb" Lovelace, 78, of Evansville, decided it was time to take the ultimate nap on October 19, 2025. He left this world surrounded by his family who are still wondering how they'll manage without their favorite source of bad jokes and unsolicited advice.
Born on August 2, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, Herb quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with – whether it was charming everyone with his wit or stubbornly refusing to read instructions. Herb graduated from Murray State with a degree in photography that he sparingly used in his illustrious career as a Marketing Art Director/starving artist.
Known for his sense of humor (or lack of), coaching and playing all sports, but soccer, love of fried fish, shopping at Walmart, and Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vita, Herb was a true original. He worked at Keller Crescent Advertising for 27 years and Nienaber Marketing for 17 years, filling in gaps with umpiring softball and working security at Tropicana, Deaconess and Roberts Stadium, where he was either adored or simply tolerated, depending on who you ask. Herb was a member of the Riverbend Association and a lifetime member of his second home, AMVETS Post 84, usually playing Farkle or Ship Captain Crew.
Herb is surviving by his wife of 45 years, Jane, who kept him on the west side; daughter, Sara Lovelace; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Malyssa Lovelace; granddaughters, Penny (10) and Violet (8), who are currently trying to figure out what to do with a collection of expired condiments and questionable memorabilia. Don't forget Porky, the cat who still hasn't figured out where Herb has gone.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, H.C. and Clara Lovelace, his sister-in-law, Rose Ann Mesker, who Herb is looking forward to meeting for the first time, and his beloved little Big Brother, Don, who hopefully has a red truck, so Herb can finally drive again.
A casual service will be held at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street from 1:00 until 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Attendees are encouraged to share their favorite embarrassing stories about Herb.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to AMVETS Post 84 and that you have a Bacardi and Diet Coke in Herb's honor. (If you are feeling fruity, add a maraschino cherry!)

Yesterday

Herb was a great umpire! I worked many games and years with him. It was fun to have this big strong guy calling with you. I also remember Herb shaving his hair, in support of his brother who got cancer. He and his great family no longer have to fight the fight. Everyone now can say what great memories of a good man. god bless!
