Richard Benjamin Maciejewski passed away at his home following a brief illness on Friday, February9, 2024, just two weeks before his 60th birthday.
Rick was one of three children born to Richard Maciejewski. Rick was born to Richard and Ann in Hinsdale, Illinois and grew up in Cicero Berwyn, a suburb of Chicago. He attended Riverside Brookfield High School where he was their star quarterback. After graduating with the class of 1982 Rick attended Northwestern University for 2 years before deciding to start his own company. "Carpenters Unlimited" became a highly successful contracting company as a result of Rick's hard work and determination to be able to travel.
Rick worked to travel and travel he did with both his wife Lucy and their son Ricky. His travels included more than a dozen trips to Kona which he considered to be the most beautiful place on earth. It was there that he and Lucy recommitted themselves to each other by following a local Hawaiian custom called an Affirmation Ceremony. Other trips included Europe, numerous cruises and many road trips throughout the United States with his son Ricky. California topped his list of national favorites. Everywhere he went he not only took in the sights and sounds but also the local food. His family described him a real "Foodie".
Strength, resilience, wisdom and a good sense of humor are just a few of the attributes that describe the type of man Rick was. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 17 years, Lucy, their son, Ricky and his step daughter, Kristal and her husband Vincent, who was a dear friend to Rick. Only a year ago, Rick officiated at their wedding.
The family plans to honor Rick by traveling to many of his favorite places once again and scattering a bit of his cremains in each location.
