Richard (Rich) J. Madansky Jr., of Medina, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at Medina Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, after battling illness for several years. Rich was born on November 2, 1947, to Richard J. Madansky Sr. and Judith Yudick in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Benedictine High School in 1966, Rich enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 2, 1966, with the rank of Electronics Technician First Class. He was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, before serving two tours on the USS Lloyd Thomas in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged an E6 on July 21, 1972, and earned several awards during his service.
Rich started his own painting and papering business and worked as an electrical engineer before completing his bachelor's degree in education and social sciences from the University of Akron. He then worked as a social studies teacher at Barberton, Ohio City Schools, for five years, retiring in 2013. He had a great love of building model airplanes and other contraptions in his workroom and garage, bowling, riding his motorcycle, star gazing, gardening with his wife, and spending time with his family.
Rich is survived by his wife, Kathryn (nee Holodnik), brothers John Madansky and William Madansky Sr., daughters Jennifer (Matthew) Zalick and Ann Madansky, stepson Michael Boberg, stepdaughter Genie (Bryan) Sams, granddaughters Susan Zalick, Sophia Zalick, and Violet Sams, grandson Colin Sams, nieces Tanya Miller, Angela Negstad, Linda Steimle, and nephews David Miller, Jake Madansky, Cole Madansky, Luke Madansky and William Madansky Jr. He was preceded in death by his father Richard J. Madansky Sr., mother Judith Yudick, and sister Linda Gollogly.
Rich leaves behind not just memories but a legacy that will continue to guide and uplift his family for generations to come. His spirit lives on in the stories told, the values he instilled, and the endless love he gave.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 31, from 9:30-10:30 am until the start of Mass at 10:30 am at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E Washington St, Medina, Ohio 44256. Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 12:15 pm.

I will always remember our visits- in his and Kathy´s backyard and house. We´d talk about anything and everything! Some other treasured memories include sitting with Rich and Kathy at church, Rich lectoring with that great voice of his and those way cool glasses, his love for motorcycles, the delicious recipes he´d cook for us, our couples faith sharing, his great sense of humor, vegetables from his garden , and so much more. He was always there to help us whenever we needed it, He was also a wonderful writer, and the story he wrote about growing up in Buckeye should be in print. Gosh, do Stan and I miss him.
