We gather in loving memory to celebrate the life of Richard Dennis Parker, a man of devout faith, commendable service, and immeasurable kindness, who was called to eternal rest on October 6, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas. Richard, known fondly as "Papa Rich" by those close to him.
Born on December 6, 1943, in the community of Snyder, Oklahoma, Richard's early years were filled with the simple joys of life. He grew up in California and then studied Psychology at Sonoma State College in California. In his younger years, Richard was an avid golfer, in pursuit of the perfect swing. He loved music, especially Southern Gospel. He found solace in long walks, which he enjoyed with his wife by his side. He looked forward to football season - especially watching The Oregon Ducks.
Richard's dedication to serving others was exemplified by his honorable service in the Medical Company under the 6th Army of the United States during the Vietnam War. His courageous efforts were recognized with several accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. After his military service, Richard continued his life's mission of protecting others as a detective for Oregon State, where his keen intellect and gentle presence were his trademarks.
Richard's love for his family was immense. He cherished his beloved wife, Angeles Palazuelos-Parker, and embraced each day with her and his children, Emilio Mendez, Michelle Martinez, Monreudy Flores, and Vongvaly Seaholm, as a treasured gift. The joy of Richard's life magnified with the laughter and love of his numerous grandchildren, with whom he spent countless precious hours.
As a committed Christian, Richard's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. It guided his every action and enabled him to live a life filled with grace and purpose. His generous nature knew no bounds as he selflessly gave of himself to his family, friends, and all who crossed his path. Described as generous, intelligent, and gentle, Richard leaves behind a legacy of kindness and wisdom. His ability to listen with empathy and to give without expectation earned him the deep respect and affection of all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Richard Dennis Parker, we draw comfort from the knowledge that his spirit lives on. His example of love, generosity, and faith continues to inspire us, and our world is indelibly brighter because of his time with us. May we honor his memory and cherish the blessed assurance that he now rests peacefully in the loving arms of our Creator.
