Richard Shawn Rogers, 66, of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life, Monday, April 24, 2023.
Shawn was born on January 17th, 1957 to Eugene and Mary Jo Rogers in Cookeville, TN, the place he called home for most of his 66 years of life. He married the absolute love of his life, Ann. Together they had two children, Cameron Shawn Rogers and Ashton Rogers Hitchcock.
Shawn loved his community, especially the Cookeville Cavalier football program where he was a star running back and linebacker. Years later he was able to watch his son play. He was a lover of all sports and would spend a majority of his time watching any form of competition, but he bled Tennessee orange. As a lifelong Tennessee Volunteers fan, you would often catch him rewatching the 98' National Championship Game.
The only thing he loved more than Tennessee Football was a day out on the water. This is how most will remember him, with a fishing rod in his hand (probably one he made himself) on his way to the same waters he fished with his father.
It never mattered if the Vols lost or if he didn't get one bite that day, he always pointed out the positives and believed it was time well spent doing the things he loved with the people he loved most.
Shawn had a knack for being able to do just about anything. He could build whatever he wrapped his head around and didn't care to spend the day in the garage fixing what needed to be fixed. "Why would I pay someone for something I can do myself!"
His strong will, quick-witted sense of humor, and heart to help others will be missed. Along with his stubbornness that drove most crazy, but always came back to be used for a good laugh.
Shawn got to spend 16 months with his grandson and loved becoming his Pops more than anything. Their time together was a gift and those memories will be cherished always.
Shawn passed peacefully surrounded by family as they shared memories and their love and gratitude for a life well lived. We hope that the next time you snap your line, find something that needs to be fixed, or Tennessee blows the game, you take a moment to think of Shawn and try to focus on all of the positive things life has to offer.
There is no doubt that he has been reunited with family and friends who passed before him.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Connell Rogers; his children, Cameron (Erin Hunter) Rogers and Ashton (Ammon) Hitchcock; his mother and brother, Mary Jo and Mark Rogers; his nephews, Shad (Diane) Shearer, Shay (Courtney) Shearer, and Justin Richardson; and his grandson, Rex Rogers Hitchcock. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Rogers; his sister, Jenny Rogers Marshall; and his niece, Mary Mac Darnell.
Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering for Richard Shawn Rogers will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
