Richard Snell Obituary

Richard “Dick” Snell passed away on March 27, 2024, surrounded by the love
of his family and caregivers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl,
and his children - Laura Snell, James Snell, Elizabeth Hampton, Bridget
Heptner, Mary Snell and Todd Eby, as well as his grandchildren, Bobby
Maess, Sierra Barker, Dane Heptner, Taylor Snell, Grant Snell, Emerson Snell
Stidham, Heathcliff Stidham, Maddison Eby, and his 3 great-grandchildren.
Dick was the son of James and Clara (Galloway) Snell.

He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Japan after the Korean War. He graduated from
Central Michigan University and Wayne State University, and had a long
career as an educator in the Macomb Intermediate School District. Dick was
an accomplished tennis player and marathon runner, having completed 31
marathons and placing in the Boston, Chicago, and Detroit Marathons.

He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman who loved the lakes, rivers, and
forests of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His family and friends take comfort in believing that his spirit may now return to those forest glens where he was at home.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Memorial
donations in his memory may be made to Alive Hospice of Nashville
(www.alivehospice.org) or The Nature Conservancy Two-Hearted Forest
Preserve (www.preserve.nature.org).
