Rita A. Brockman, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa with Reverend John Swing officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the day of the service. Burial will take place following the service at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
Rita was born May 10, 1936, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to the late Everett and Mary (Karpinski) Lambert. She graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School, Lincoln High School and UW – Stevens Point. Rita was very talented musician, artist and writer.
She worked at Nekoosa Port Edwards Paper Company as a mail person where she met and married Bruce Brockman on August 8, 1959, in Wisconsin Rapids. While working in the mill, they purchased a cranberry marsh in Nekoosa and Rita became a mother of four children and "farmer". She played the organ at Sacred Heart for many years and was a member and President of the Brush and Palette Art Club. Her artistic abilities brought her to pursue an art degree at UW – Stevens Point. Rita was interested in the history of the community and was always taking pictures to preserve the old for everyone to remember. She enjoyed the study of theology and kept quite a library. She loved to chat with Fr. Dennis and Fr. John about the latest books she had acquired. In later years she spent much of her time writing poems and stories in her journals. Rita was a truly unique woman and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Rita is survived by her husband, Bruce Brockman; daughters, Jean Brockman of Wisconsin Rapids, Sara (Roger) Wilhorn of Nekoosa, Mary Brockman of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren, Ryan (Alyssa) Wilhorn, Samantha (Carl) Selvick, Randall Wilhorn, Reynor Wilhorn; great-grandchildren, Landen Wilhorn, Raegen Wilhorn, Oliver Selvick, Everett Selvick; in-laws, Jim and Sue Sachs, Nate and Betty Brockman and further survived by many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Mary Lambert; brothers, John, George, Paul; sister, Jean; son, Stephen Brockman; in-laws, Darlene Lambert, Morris and Yvonne Brockman, Raymond Brockman, Martha Smith and Oscar Mederas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Parish.
The Brockman family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Olson and the staff of Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care of Rita.
