Robert Burden Obituary
The memorial visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ on Sunday, May 28th, from 1-3 PM with a prayer service to begin at 2:30 PM.
Robert's greatest loves were God and his family. He was always a family first man whose faith was the cornerstone of that. He was a member of Lake Nelson Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Robert was born in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Grace Evelyn (nee Christiansen) and Joseph William Burden. He had resided in North Plainfield for many years before moving to Stirling in 2022.
Robert was an architectural woodworker by trade and had been employed by Meilach Woodwork in Edison, NJ for many years before his retirement. He also enjoyed woodworking in his free time, and making clocks was a favorite pastime. Robert loved nature and going on hikes and was fascinated by birds. Some of his favorite hobbies were photographing the sunrise and posting it on facebook along with words of wisdom or something funny to start his day. Reading a book by the big picture window and feeding the squirrels peanuts as they ran up and down the tree outside.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis (nee Bennett); his loving children, Jennifer Brandt (Lawrence), Eric Burden (Theresa), Christian Burden (Lisa) and Andrew Burden (Jennifer May-Ortiz); his cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Dylan, Anthony (fiancé Allyssa), Tyler (fiancé Di'Amonique), Stephen, Christian, Joshua, Ashley, Shawny, Kayla, Sophia, Brandon, and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Carmine, Tristan, Elijah, J.J., Payton, Kennedy, and Mia; and his dear brother Joseph Burden (Polly). In addition to his parents Robert was pre-deceased by his sister Grace Apanel and great-grandson Christopher.

Dear Phyllis, Jen, Eric, Christian, Andrew, and family,
We are holding you in our hearts during this time, and know how broken your hearts are. We, too, are heart broken that Bob has passed. He was such a kind, gentle, devoted man.
Phyllis, he adored you, and he adored the kids and grandkids, as well. As our neighbor for over 40 years, you both never hesitated to show concern and care for us. During the pandemic, when you reached out to check on us, he mentioned he always wanted to read "To Kill a Mockingbird". I sent him a copy. Phyllis, you then asked me what style of decor I liked. A few weeks later, I received a lovely wood clock that Bob had made by hand! He was a gifted wood worker and that clock is precious to us. And he is precious to us, too, always. We'll miss him so.
