Robert R. Carson

Canandaigua - Robert R. Carson, age 87, passed away October 14, 2024. Bob was born in Rochester to Frank and Elizabeth (Riley) Carson. He and his family moved to Canandaigua in 1948. Bob attended Canandaigua schools and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy. He met his future wife Marilynn while both were attending Alfred State College. After graduation, they were married on November 1, 1958, in Canandaigua, where they resided. Bob worked for J.E. Miller Nurseries, Agway in Syracuse and Northern Nurseries, based in Connecticut. He was later self-employed for many years, working to help create the beautiful sports fields for local schools and local golf courses.
Bob enjoyed sailing on Canandaigua Lake, golfing with many friends and his grandsons and laughing with his great-granddaughter. He also enjoyed area events and scenery with Marilynn. Bob was known to his grandchildren and their friends as Papa Carson. He will be remembered for his love of family.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilynn Carson; two sons, Robert (Karen) Carson, Jr. and David Carson; two grandchildren, Christopher (Kathryn) Carson and Michael (Holly) Carson; a great-granddaughter, Nellie; two brothers, James (Donna) Carson and William Carson; three sisters, Jean Glor, Mary Lou Havens and Elizabeth "Betsy" Carson; sisters-in-law, Helen Carson and Rosemary "Posie" Fregoe; brother-in-law, David Lower; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles "Tom" Carson in 2005 and Frederick Carson in 2024; sister, Helen "Pat" Hughes in 2020; and sister-in-law, Carol Lower.
Friends may call Thursday, October 17, from 4-6pm, at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His memorial service will be held Friday, October 18, at 1pm, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
