Robert G. Danehy, 76, of Vernon, beloved husband of 50 years to Linda (Kurowsky) Danehy, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 25, 2025. He was born on May 17, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, NY, one of two children to the late Michael F. and Gladys C. (Vandenburgh) Danehy.

Robert grew up in the Bronx, NY, and graduated from Evander Childs High School. He attended The Cooper Union in New York, NY, where he attained an undergraduate degree in Physics. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Stony Brook University. For many years, Robert had a successful career as an Engineer, working with Optics and Electronics in industries related to Space until his retirement in 2017.

Robert was dedicated to his family, enjoyed traveling, and was hugely interested in Astronomy and Space, keeping up with the latest discoveries and advancements in the industry. The successful launch of the James Webb Space Telescope in 2021 was the best Christmas gift he could have asked for. He enjoyed viewing the stars and planets with his telescope on a clear night. He took pride in designing and executing various home projects, including building a beautiful garden for his wife Linda, where they spent much of their time.

Throughout his life, Robert was a humble, yet well respected man, and a friend and mentor to many, sharing kind words, knowledge, encouragement, and advice.

In addition to his wife Linda, Robert is survived by his two daughters, Erin Alexander and her husband Bryan of Brooklyn, NY, and their two sons, Miles and Asher; and daughter Caitlin Slayden and her husband Charles of Vernon, CT; as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara Danehy of Troutdale, OR. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Michael W. Danehy.

In lieu of flowers, Robert's family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society, or to your local Astronomy Club in Robert's name.
