Robert A. "Chip" DeLamater, Jr., 70, passed away at home, in Gastonia, on Monday, December 16, 2024, following a recent, rapid decline in health.
Chip was born on February 2, 1954, to the late Robert and Nancy Holtzclaw DeLamater. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joan Kidwell; nephew, Chris Boswell; and his lifelong best friend, Freddie Patterson.
Left to remember and tell "Chip Stories" include his partner of 30 years, Patti Stowe; sister, Lynne (Bud) Faulkner; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, Patti's family, and dear friends.
Chip graduated from South Point High School and attended UNC-Chapel Hill and spent his career in the hospitality industry. His "mancave" was his sanctuary where he collected and displayed his love for monkey's, The Three Stooges, Babe Ruth, Santa Clauses, Batman, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Utah Jazz, Joe Cocker, music of the 60's, and 70's, 007, Gunsmoke, and Turner Classic Movies. Chip completed crossword puzzles daily to a timer, loved to play golf, and had an uncanny ability to correctly guess the correct question to Final Jeopardy, from the category. He was a lifelong baseball fan and had an amazing statistical knowledge of the game. But above all Chip was a true blue, die hard, Carolina Tarheel fan.
A celebration of Chip's life will be held in the near future.
Serving the family is New Hope Presbyterian Church and the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium.
