Robert Bob Marsh Edney, born on August 17, 1947, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 77.
Bob was a proud graduate of Hendersonville High School, class of 1965. He pursued higher education at Clemson University, where he earned a degree in Architecture. His passion for learning led him to further his studies, and he obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Georgia.
Bob's first job was in Athens, GA where he converted an old textile mill into shops and living spaces. He designed and built a 1000 bed contingency hospital for the Army in Belgium. He started working for Heery International, Inc. in their Atlanta office in 1972. He remained there until 2018 retiring as an Executive Associate. He worked on a vast array of projects including, hospitals in Luxembourg, Germany, Quantico, VA, the Greenville Hospital in SC and numerous others. He worked on several government projects that required high level security clearance. He traveled extensively with his work.
Bob enjoyed family gatherings and watching his nieces and nephews growing up. They were the joy of his life following the joy of being a prolific architect for Heery International in Atlanta.
Bob enjoyed horses, double black diamond skiing, golf, fishing, and spoiling his beloved family members. He was very devoted to his work and rarely missed a day at the office, and his tenure and accolades speak to as much. Following his well-deserved retirement, he moved home to Hendersonville to enjoy time with his family. Feeding the birds, photographing butterflies, and enjoying flowers in his yard brought Bob an immense amount of joy, and his ability to appreciate lifes daily moments will not be lost to those he left behind. He dearly loved his faithful furry companion, Harvey the schnauzer, who is in the loving care of a neighbor who came to enjoy Bobs company as anyone would.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward Ernest Edney and Annabelle Frazier Edney, both of Hendersonville, NC.
Bob is survived by a brother, Thomas Edney, a niece, Kimberly Edney Davis and nephew Christopher Edney all of Hendersonville, NC. Bob had a great niece, Taylor Heery and a great nephew, Sawyer Heery, great nephew Maxwell Robert Edney, a great-great niece and nephew, Margeaux and Hiram Griffith.
We are all incredibly grateful to have known such a kind and intelligent man, and though we mourn his passing, we are resolute in our knowing that we will see him again and rejoice in the happiness we all once shared. Well miss you, Uncle Bob!!
A private family celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.
