Dean, as most of you know him, was born January 17, 1941, on a farm north of Burlington, OK, to Amos Floyd & Viola Christina Herren, the youngest of 3 boys.
He grew up restoring old cars with his father. Learning invaluable skills that he carried throughout his life. He traveled with his family from Texas to the Dakotas for Harvest every year in the earlier years of his life. Dean attended Alva Public School, graduating in 1960.
In 1963, he married the love of his life, Charleen Arndt. From this union they had four children. Rod, Dennis, Randall & Dianna. Dean & Charleen spent 50 wonderful years of marriage before Charleen passed in 2013.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army In 1963, and honorably discharged in 1965, arriving home for his son Rod's first birthday.
Dean worked at Rialto Theater as a Projectionist, Joe Edwards Motor Company, Q & N Conoco, Horn Lumber Company, Robert R. Brown Lumber Company and the Dacoma Farmer's Co-op where he retired after 26 years.
Dean was a role model not just for his family but for many people. He was a great Husband, Dad & Grandpa. His family meant the world to him. He enjoyed working on projects with his kids & grandkids. He could whistle a tune while doing anything & not miss a beat. He enjoyed outdoor activities. Hunting, Fishing, Gardening, Mowing & many more. In his down time, he could be found kicked back watching a good western or any old movie. He was quite the movie buff.
Dean was a man of many talents. If he could Imagine it, he could build it. There wasn't anything he could not fix. He loved to restore John Deere Lawn Mowers especially but loved to tinker with anything that had an engine. Dean enjoyed doing carpentry work & was quite good at it. He was a very patient man & did not mind taking the extra time to get something done. He believed that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing it right.
Dean was loved by all who knew him. He was the most generous & kindhearted person you would ever know. He was & always will be in the hearts of all who knew him. He was an extraordinary man who lived a simple life.
Dean is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife Charleen, Brother Floyd, Mother & Father-in-Law, 7 Brothers in Law, 2 Sisters in Law.
Dean is survived by his brother: Clifford Herren; Children: Rod (Andrea) Herren, Dennis Herren, Randall (Donna) Herren, Dianna (Rick) Eldridge; Grandkids: Lynell Johnston, Josh Weber, Jessica (Chris) Tidwell, Daphne (Johnny) Herrera, Dalton Willyard, Bralyn Leatherbury, Shanea (Brandon) Mustard, Sasha Matthews, Elijah Herren; Great Grandkids: Xavier, Talon, Alec, Emiliano, Aleana, Teagan, Allison, Azaylia, Jayda, Talia, Tripp, Legend, Eva, Lexi, Alli, Nate, Zalani; And many nieces, nephews & cousins.
