Robert J. Johnston

Robert J. Johnston, (Bob) 72 of Whippany, NJ passed peacefully on November 8, 2025. Born in Newark, he was raised in West Orange and has lived in Whippany since 1971. He attended St. Peter's University in Jersey City and later earned a MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ.
Bob was Chief Financial Officer for Employment Horizons in Cedar Knolls, NJ for 24 years, retiring in 2023. He has been a volunteer with the Whippany Fire Department since 1987, acting as Whippany Fire Commissioner for 9 years and also volunteered as Fire Police Officer. Bob also volunteered at the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains, NJ. He enjoyed collecting trains and making model boats and cars.
Bob is pre-deceased by his parents, George W. Johnston Sr. and Margaret (Jane) Nugent Johnston. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joy Johnston, (nee Mascola), father of Kim Landers and her husband JB, Shawn Johnston and his wife Gina. Grandfather of Keri Landers, Jimmie Landers, Grace Johnston and Scott Johnston and his brother George W. Johnston Jr.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Whippany. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany, NJ. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown.
