Robert Maher

Robert Griffin Maher (Bob) of Manasquan passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16th after a battle with age-related dementia. Born in 1933 in New Haven, Connecticut, he graduated from West Haven High School in 1951. An avid sports fan, Bob played football and baseball. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1955 and received an executive master's degree from Yale University in 1967. Bob also served in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1957. As a long time employee of AT&T, Bob lived all over the northeast, from Marblehead, MA, to Middletown, NJ, to Berkeley Heights, NJ before moving to Manasquan in 1998.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Elsie Maher, his wife Lois Maher, his son Keith Maher, sister Sheila Swain, brother-in-law Terrence Swain, mother-in-law Gladys Kazenski, sister-in-law Valerie Porada, and his best friend of 70 years Dave Maher. He is survived by his sons, Mark Maher, Brian Maher, and Robert Maher (Shannon). He leaves behind grandchildren Kyle, Brett, Katie, Jeff, Jaiden, Zack and Lois. Bob is also survived by nieces Lisa Woodfield (Ed), Karen Wegrzyniak (Mike), Leslie Carmody (Dan), and Anastasia Nichols (Marty), along with nephews Stephen Porada (Faith) and Kevin Swain (Karen). He was also "Great Uncle Bob" to Bryan, Tracy, Emily, Caralyn, Amy, Stephen, Shea, Soren, Maya, Alexa and Veda.
Bob loved his happy hour cocktails and early bird dinners. He was a very kind, generous and loyal customer who enjoyed entertaining his favorite bartenders and waitresses with one liners and his vast personal dictionary of words and phrases. The relationships he built with Joe, Timmy, Ryan, Sue, Jimmy, Brian, Paul, Chris, Bobby, Elise, Craig, Dominic, Allison, Steve and Shirley meant the world to him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, September 22nd from 9:30 am – 11:30 am at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736, with a short funeral service to begin at 11 am.
