Robert "Dale" Porter, 91, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on November 12, 1933, to the late Robert A. and Mildred (Wathen) Porter, Dale's life was one of dedication, service, and love. A 1952 graduate of Reitz High School, he was a member of the local 4-H club and served as president of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), roles that reflected his early leadership and commitment to his community.

After high school, Dale answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served during the Korean War and was honored to travel on the EVV9 Honor Flight in 2018. Following his military service, Dale embarked on a long and successful career with IBM, where he worked for 26 years before retiring.

Dale was a faithful member of the Washington Avenue Church of Christ, where he and his beloved wife of 66 years, Stella (Rideout) Porter, were actively involved in ministry. In their retirement, Dale and Stella traveled extensively with the Sojourners, dedicating their time and talents to evangelism and supporting congregations of the Churches of Christ across the country. Their mission work included service to children's homes, church camps, Christian colleges, and disaster relief efforts. Dale also enjoyed his annual volunteer work at Western Kentucky Youth Camp, particularly during the week for 8, 9, and 10-year-old campers.

Dale is survived by his wife, Stella; their three sons, Mark (Julie), Greg (Kelly), and Bobby (Lisa); their grandchildren, Matthew (Jasmine), Brooke (Kyle) Adler, Jordan, Conner (Emily), Aaron (Elise), Andrew (Riley), and Austin; and their great-grandchildren, Rhett, Willow, Wrenley, Maverick, Baylor, Owen, Dax, and Henry. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Anderson of Newburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Gayle Hanning.

Dale's interests were a reflection of his love for life and family. He found great joy in attending his grandchildren's sporting events. His hobbies included working on puzzles, tending to his garden, and woodworking.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care during Dale's final days. Their kindness and support were a great comfort to him and his loved ones.

A man of quiet strength, steady faith, and heartfelt generosity, Dale's life was a blessing to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western Kentucky Youth Camp in Marion, Kentucky.

Services for Dale will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home in Evansville, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Burial will immediately follow at Sunset Cemetery.
