Robert Milner Pyle, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL, Short Hills, NJ, and Mantoloking, NJ passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025. Bob was born on October 24, 1938 in Orange, NJ to Dorothy Collings Pyle and Robert Milner Pyle. He graduated from The Pingry School in 1956 and Williams College in 1960. After completing his J.D. at the University of Virginia in 1963, he embarked on a career in corporate and federal securities law in New York City. Bob began his career at Mudge Rose Guthrie & Alexander, then joined Studebaker-Worthington and The Singer Company before becoming Vice President, Secretary, and Counsel at the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, now known as the Society for Corporate Governance. His final position before retirement was Vice President and Senior Assistant Secretary at the American Express Company.
In 1969 Bob married Page Neville of New York City, and a few years later they happily settled in Short Hills, NJ with their two daughters. He was a member of the John's Island Club, Short Hills Club, Bay Head Yacht Club, and Racquet & Tennis Club of New York. He loved tennis, hardball squash, music (particularly opera), playing the piano, and visiting the beach, and was an avid reader of the New York Times. Bob had a sharp legal mind and a deep appreciation of both Latin and the English language. He was a tennis and squash aficionado, playing and possessing a quiet encyclopedic knowledge of both sports. Bob was equally devoted to his family and friends and took great pleasure in sharing his accomplished piano skills with them. After his beloved wife Page passed away much too soon in 2007, he spent the majority of his time in Vero Beach, FL. During retirement, Bob enjoyed volunteering with the Short Hills Club, The Pingry School, and the Northern NJ Squash Racquets Association.
Bob is survived by his daughters Nina Furlanetto (Michael) of Santa Fe, NM and Laura Pyle (Charles Brunton) of Arlington, VA, his sister Wendy Pyle and her son Timothy Pyle, and four grandchildren, Abby, Will, Andrew, and Emily. A service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to The Pingry School, Basking Ridge, NJ, Williams College, Williamstown, MA, or Greenwood Gardens, Short Hills, NJ.
