Robert E. Reynolds, Jr., 92, of Port Clinton, Ohio peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Parkview Community on Catawba Island. He was born on July 20, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Robert E. and Katharine (Matthews) Reynolds, Sr. He married Sara Christine Gayski on September 16, 1967 and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2000.
Bob was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1953-1955 with Company E 130th Infantry Regimen as a Rifleman and Rocket Launcher in the 44th Division. He was also a past member of the US Power Squadron.
He was well known as being a boat builder and designer for Matthews Boat Company in Port Clinton for over 25 years until his retirement in 2000. Due to his skill and craftsmanship, he also taught boat building classes at the Maritime Museum in Sandusky.
He enjoyed water coloring and painting, where his artwork can be found displayed at the Port Clinton Arts Garage. He was also an active member of Firelands Presbyterian Church, Port Clinton, where he was a founding member, served as an elder and deacon, and where he custom designed and built their church furniture, namely the baptismal font, church steeple, and candelabras.
He loved touring with the Onward DVD that he patented and gave many presentations to groups across the area. He also loved the Northcoast where he enjoyed riding the ferry to Put-in-Bay, and taking bicycle rides to pick grapes at Heineman vineyards. Most importantly, he enjoyed visiting with the people he loved.
Survivors include his sister, Jane Reynolds-Howerth, Charleston, South Carolina; nieces, Susan (Tim) Celek, Costa Mesa, California, Sally (Ken) Schoenfeld, Cape Coral, Florida, Martha (Brian) Celek, Charleston, South Carolina, Judy (Burrell) Dosher, Charleston, South Carolina, Janice (Bill) Gstalder, Toledo, Ohio, Patti Reynolds, Toledo, Ohio; son, Michael Zetzer, Avon Lake, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Scott Reynolds.

Bob and I had the honor of being Deacons together at Firelands Church. We were in charge of bringing in the coffin of one of our congregation. I remember Bob reaching in the pocket of his black suit and pulling out the program from the last time he used that black suit. It was from his wife´s funeral. He paused pulled himself together and shared the discovery. The calm, loving gentleness with which he handled his emotions will be with me forever. What a great example Bob was for us all.

Bob was always so nice and friendly when he would stop by the Frederick Agency or I´d see him at the coffee express, he will be missed.

Bob was a generous person with his Boat building skills helping at the Sandusky Maritime Museum teaching classes and especially helpful with the "battle of Lake Erie bicentennial" construction of the Perry Longboat for the Perry Group. He visited me often on his bike at my office at the Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce! He will be greatly missed. he was truly an island guy.

Our Uncle Bob was a very special person in our (my sister Janice Reynolds Gstalder and myself) lives and we're sorry to hear of his passing through a 3rd party. I would also like to include our father, Bob's brother, Scott Matthews Reynolds, who also preceded him in death. We met many wonderful people throughout Uncle Bob's life, he was a true original! God Bless.
