Bob graduated from Waupun High School in 1963 before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, graduating with his undergrad in 1969. Bob was a member of the Fish Farm and Game Club, helping with the Youth Pheasant hunt and was a mentor for other hunting programs. He was a member of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Most important in Bob's life were his faith and church, and his family. He was an intelligent man with an engaging presence and possessed a great sense of humor, and a determined personality.
