Robert Lee Stephens, age 61, passed away in Newalla, OK, on September 12, 2025, surrounded by family. Robert was born in Oklahoma City on January 2, 1964, to Harold and Janice Stephens. He grew up in Del City and graduated from Del City High School.
Robert worked at the Sunnylane Cemetery for 20 years. The day after Robert graduated high school his mom called him and said, "if you want a job then get your ass down here." He loved working with his mom and seeing her every day and his children loved visiting their dad and grandma at work.
Robert met the love of his life Melrita Tidwell on a blind date. Robert and Mel united in marriage on June 7, 1986. When Mel would bring up children, Robert got her a dog. 2 dogs and 6 years later they had a son and almost 3 years later a daughter. Robert became "PopPop" in August 2024 when his grandson Billie was born. Robert was a family man and loved to spend time with his family.
Robert had a passion for cars and would often read car magazines to stay updated on the latest news. He enjoyed going to the casino and him and Mel would go as often as they could. He would regularly quote some of his favorite television shows including South Park, Family Guy, and American Dad, and these shows stayed on repeat on his TV. Robert had a soft spot for animals. He loved his dogs and spoiled each and every one of them. He easily made kids laugh and his buddy EJ was a common partner in crime. A favorite family past time was going out to eat; he loved a good hamburger and a good steak. Robert could make friends anywhere he went and talk to anyone like he knew them for years.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Janice Stephens; his father-in-law Leon Tidwell; sisters-in-law Dee Brooks and Cindy Stephens; and many others he loved.
Robert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Melrita Stephens; his children, Derek and Danielle Stephens; sons-in-law Willie Stephens and Riley Hurst; grandson Billie Stephens; father Harold Stephens; brother Larry Stephens; sister Jo Ellen Patterson; mother-in-law Melvia Tidwell; and countless loved ones.
The service to honor Robert's life will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at Ford Chapel located at 315 S. Sooner Rd, Midwest City, OK 73110. A celebration of life will be held in the adjoining community room immediately following the service.
Robert will be forever remembered with love.
