Robert Tatterson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Service & Crematory - Greenville on Nov. 4, 2025.
Greenville - Robert Tatterson, known to many as Bob, passed away on October 28, 2025, in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 78 peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born on April 26, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, he enjoyed racing vehicles while assisting his father M. L. Tatterson at his auto body shop. He later became manager of Revco Drug and Dollar Tree where he ran disciplined, organized stores with a great sense of responsibility and work ethic like his father. He retired with his wife, Karen Tatterson in Greenville, where his daughter and two grandsons reside. Bob had a love of sports cars and rock music from the 60's and 70's. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age which posed some health challenges, so he grew with a philosophy of tough love; he'd give you the shirt off his back but fuss the entire time about why you lost it and what you could have done differently.
A natural jokester like his father, Bob, had a way of telling it like it was and could insert a joke in almost any situation. The family spent many summers vacationing in Nags Head, often inviting friends-both two- and four-legged-to join in. Bob had a soft spot for neighborhood stray cats, giving them names and plenty of conversation. He taught his granddaughter the classic rock tunes and his grandson's home improvement projects.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie Garret Tatterson and Melvin Lloyd Tatterson; and three siblings, Richard Tatterson, Melvin Jr. Tatterson and Barbara Hayes.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Tatterson; his two children, Rebecca and Robin Tatterson; and his three grandchildren, Ariel, Ian and Nicolai.
A service will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Chapel in celebration of his life. The family will receive friends following the service.
