Robert Troast Obituary
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Gertrude (2018). Surviving are his devoted children: Robert, Jr (Evie), Leonard (Kathy), Richard (Nancy), Bruce (Kathy), Ronald (Susan), David (Karen) and JuleAnn Martin (Daniel). Robert also leaves his 34 grandchildren and their spouses, 75 great-grandchildren, 1 great -great-grandson, his sister-in-law Fogeline Maas and many nieces and nephews.
Serving Jesus and sharing his faith was Bob's heart. He served on church council as a deacon and elder many times. He worked with outreach, hospitality and wherever he could help in the church life. Bob served on both the Board for Eastern Christian School Association and Bethany Christian Services.
Robert established Robert C. Troast, Opticians in Ridgewood in 1952 which later transitioned into Troast Vision and Hearing Center. Bob served on the State Board of Ophthalmic Dispensers and Technicians for the State of NJ for 37 years. He was also chairman of the NJ Guild of Opticians.
The Troast family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's name may be made to: Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Avenue, Wyckoff NJ 07481 or Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.

Dear Jule Ann, Katie, and family,
My heart goes out to you and your family and others who loved your dad. I noted that the funeral home was named legacy and your dad certainly left a huge spiritual legacy in his family and those his life touched through the years. When I even think of one of his children (you! ) and how much you have meant in my life (to say nothing of the other lives you have touched and continue to touch) and expand that through his other children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, the impact is astounding. May the Lord comfort, uphold and guide you in the coming days. "And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write: `Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!´" "Yes," says the Spirit, "so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them." (Rev 14:13).

I was inspired to meet Bob while he was a short term resident at Longview of Christian Health. His generosity of heart, his humility, and his passion for the Christian faith was evident throughout his life. He told me that his last name, in Dutch, means "Comforter." He certainly lived up to that name, and my prayer is that all who survive him will be comforted by the knowledge that nothing, not even death, separates us from the love of God, in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
