In Loving Memory of Robert Keith Turner
A Life of Quiet Strength and Cherished Devotion
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Robert Keith Turner. At the age of 83, Robert departed peacefully on September 2nd, 2025, in Johnston, Rhode Island.
Born on September 23rd, 1941, Robert was a cherished son to Leo and Elsie (Holden) Turner. His early years were woven with the threads of family, tradition, and gentle guidance, serving as the solid foundation for the man he would become-a man defined by integrity, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
Robert's legacy is illuminated not only by his accomplishments and passions but most especially by the family he nurtured and loved. He is survived by his four daughters, each a testament to his values and enduring affection: Susan D. Marwell and her husband Stephen of Cranston, Kerri A. Maloney and her husband Patrick of Greenville, Robin K. Babcock and her partner Kevin and Rebecca L. Barone and her husband Craig all of East Greenwich.
His devotion as a father was reflected in the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement he offered his daughters throughout their lives. Their accomplishments and kindness mirror the lessons imparted by Robert-a man who balanced strength with gentleness, independence with warmth.
Robert's legacy continues through his seven devoted grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who carry forward his spirit of quiet curiosity and kindness. It was not uncommon to see Robert sharing stories, wisdom, or a gentle laugh with his grandchildren, fostering their growth and celebrating their triumphs, no matter how small or grand.
He also leaves behind his two brothers, Michael Turner and his wife Rebecca of Vermont, and Kerry Turner and his wife Frances of New Hampshire, who stood alongside him through life's journey, bound by shared memories and deep affection. The Turner family's bond remains indelible, even as Robert's siblings, Nancy Austin and Richard S. Turner who predeceased him, are remembered fondly and missed dearly.
Robert was a man of paradoxes: strong yet gentle, independent yet tender, quiet yet expressive in ways that mattered most. His tough exterior belied a heart brimming with warmth, introspection, and love. He was unwaveringly hardworking; his ethic forged in years of dedication to his family and those he cared for. The work of his hands in the garden, the careful maintenance of his yard, and the steady pursuit of knowledge all spoke to his commitment to excellence and pride.
A devoted lover of the outdoors, Robert found solace and inspiration in the natural world. He was a freshwater fishing enthusiast, often rising with the sun to enjoy the tranquility of rivers and lakes, his mind at peace with the gentle rhythm of the water. His garden was his sanctuary, and the fruits of his labor-lush blooms, thriving plants, and flourishing trees-were a testament to his patience, skill, and reverence for growth. He particularly enjoyed the company of birds and cats, often taking delight in their presence and personalities. These companions brought him quiet joy, and he nurtured them with the same care he extended to his family and friends.
Robert's intellect was as remarkable as his character. He was an avid reader, eager to uncover the mysteries of science and history. Biographies filled his shelves, offering him insight into the lives and minds of others. Publications such as American Scientific and National Geographic were particular favorites; anything about constellations sparked his imagination, connecting him to the vastness of the universe and the wonders it contains. The stars above seemed less distant for Robert, who found comfort and curiosity in their silent twinkle.
Robert's love of sports brought him camaraderie and joy. He was a passionate fan of the Yankees, celebrated their victories, and weathered their defeats with unwavering loyalty. He also cheered on the Giants and the NY Rangers, finding common ground with fellow fans and family members alike. On game days, his enthusiasm was contagious, and the bonds forged over shared triumphs and heartbreaks remain a part of his enduring legacy.
Those who knew Robert best would describe him as a peaceful soul, a man whose quiet presence brought comfort and steadiness to any room. His humility and introspection were evident in the thoughtful conversations he engaged in, often with a cold Martini in hand, gazing out over his well-kept yard. The beauty of nature, the laughter of loved ones, and the simple pleasures of life brought him the deepest contentment.
Services honoring Robert have been entrusted to the Berarducci Funeral Home. In accordance with his wishes and the family's desire for intimacy, the ceremonies will be private, allowing his loved ones to gather in quiet reflection.
As we mourn the loss of Robert Keith Turner, we also celebrate the profound impact he had on each of us. His life was a tapestry of strength, kindness, curiosity, and love-a tapestry that will continue to inspire and guide all those privileged to know him. We invite all who shared in Robert's journey to leave a condolence, a memory, or a moment of gratitude for his family. May his spirit linger in the gardens he tended, the books he cherished, and the hearts of those he loved. Rest peacefully, Robert. Your legacy lives on in every life you've touched, every flower that blooms in your garden, and every star overhead.
