Roger John Schaaf, 77, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Arborview Court.
Services for Roger will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 3:00 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
Roger was born on March 8, 1945 to Jerry and Lena (Smits) Schaaf in Wisconsin Rapids. He married Kathleen Bushmaker on October 15, 1966. He was blessed with 55 years of marriage to Kathy until her passing on November 14, 2021. He retired from Winder Post Office in Georgia as a mail carrier.
Roger served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. He was a loyal member of American Legion Post 485 (Rudolph) for 48 years, and also enjoyed the Heroes Café. He was a member of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) since 2016.
He bowled in many leagues during his life, notably the "Dick Trickle League". An avid golfer, he was sports-minded and lived for the Brewers, Packers and NASCAR. He enjoyed his time at various casinos and was a passionate reader of western books.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Dawn Schaaf; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Brian
(Wanda) Woodward; sister, Jean Garehan; sisters-in-law: MaryAnn Ladick, Cindy Hill, Phylis (Vernon) Halverson, Marilyn (Kenneth) Reils, Jean (Mike) Stengle; brothers-in-law: Richard (Sharon) Krajewski, Raymond (Carol) Krajewski, Dennis Tittle, John (Yaeko) Ruprecht, Jim Sackmaster, Jerry (Kathy) Sackmaster, Wayne (Rhonda) Sackmaster; grandchildren: Adam (Mindi) Woodward, Dustin Woodward, Amanda LaBarge and Dylan Woodward; great-grandchildren: Mason, Aiden, Corbin, Jace, and Heidi. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. Special friends include John (Candy) Oldakowski, Tracy Mumford and Ruth Hoffman.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Legion Rudolph Post 485, Veterans Honor Flight or the Wounded Warrior Project.
