Roger Dale Thompson was born to Robert and Lenora Jordan Thompson on April 14, 1949. He was born in Canmer, Kentucky in Hart County.
Roger attended Carter Dowling School, later graduating from Hart Memorial High School. He also attended Sullivan University. He joined the US Army where he proudly served our country as a medic. He retired from the City of Louisville after working 32 years as a computer processor supervisor.
Roger loved working with young people as a coach/mentor in the PRP area.
He was actively involved in numerous organizations, especially the Southwest Community Festival. Roger was jokingly known as the unofficial Mayor of PRP.
He was a loving member of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, where he faithfully served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Roger was an AVID U of L fan, where he cheered his Cardinals on, rarely missing a game. He was known for being the first one in and the last one out of the Yum Center.
Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Leroy Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Stella Thompson Barbour, Rachel Thompson, Lula Bell Ramsey.
Survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ayers Thompson, son, Christopher Dale Thompson, and grandson Kyle Hampton. Siblings Robert (Shirley) Thompson, Herman (Beatrice) Thompson, Jerry (Francine) Thompson, Josephine Crawford, sister-in-law Ingrid Thompson, also by many extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday July 26, 2025, at 11:00am Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, 2120 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-8:00pm and Saturday from 9:00-11:00am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be given in his memory to Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, 2120 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, KY 40216.
