Roland Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cooper & Humbles Funeral Company Inc on Mar. 20, 2026.
Mr. Roland Walker, Jr., 83, of Melfa, departed this life on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Nassawadox, Virginia. He was born May 27, 1942, in Weirwood, Virginia, to the late Roland Walker, Sr. and Mable T. Walker.

Affectionately known as "Huckie," he was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the company of those he loved. He had a special passion for horses - caring for them, grooming them, and following horse races with great enthusiasm. Huckie also enjoyed football season, especially play-fully teasing family members about who would win each game. He was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and never missed an opportunity to support his team. His warm humor, easygoing spirit, and love for laughter made him a cherished presence at family gatherings.

Roland was a faithful member of Snead's Memorial Methodist Church Independent in Keller, Virginia. His faith and fellowship with the church community were important parts of his life.

He was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Mrs. Hattie Conquest Walker, for 23 years. Together they shared over 50 years of love, companionship, and devotion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Henry Walker; granddaughter, Aniyah Johnson; and siblings, Albert Walker, Curtis Walker, Susie Walker, and Shirley Walker.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Hattie Conquest Walker; his children, Theodore (Juana) Johnson of Mt. Vernon, NY, Linda (James) Finney of Machipongo, VA, Roland Johnson of Cape Charles, VA, James (Alice) Johnson of Exmore, VA, Maryann (Harry) Coston of Exmore, VA, John Walker of Cheriton, VA, and Darnell (Barbara) Johnson of Machipongo, VA; and his step-children, Dawn Conquest, Deanna Conquest, Debbie Conquest, Linda Conquest, and Maryann Harris.

He is also survived by his siblings, Mabel (Preston) Mason of Machipongo, VA, Geraldine (Donald) Johnson of Nasswadox, VA, Maggie Walker of Machipongo, VA, Karen Upshur of Seaford, DE, Laura (James) of Painter, VA, Rose Upshur of Trenton, NJ, Kenneth Walker of Wardtown, VA, George (Leslie) Walker of Exmore, VA, Roy Walker of Bridgeville, DE, Michael (Inez) Upshur Milton, DE, Terry (Wileen) Upshur of Milton, DE, and Isaac Upshur of Milton, DE; his aunt, Lucille Johnson James of Richmond, VA; his sister-in-law, Fannie Nottingham of Melfa, VA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends who will forever cherish his memory.
