Ronald Eugene Burns
Ronald Eugene Burns passed peacefully from this life on December 31, 2025, at the age of 85. He spent his last weeks under hospice care at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was a gentle man with a quiet and kind heart. He deeply loved his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.
Ronald was proceeded in death by his parents, Willie Clifton and Willie Mae; his older brother, Robert; his sister-in-law, Wanda; and his son-in-law, Mark Deskins. He is survived here by his beloved wife, Monetta; his daughters, Monica and Karen; his son-in-law, Greg Deskins; his grandchildren, Matthew Aulds, Heather Escandell, Ruth Deskins, and their spouses, Joe Escandell and Caleb McGaughey; and his great-grandson, Harrison McGaughey. He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren including Robert, Candice, Jackie, Alexis, Zachary, Zoey, Isaiah, and Max Deskins, and Shaun, Katy, Emily, and Andy Deskins.
Ronald was born on October 20, 1940, in
Houston, Texas. He was raised in the Heights area of Houston and graduated from Reagan High School in 1958. He then attended night classes at the University of Houston while working full time during the day. He earned a degree in engineering technology in 1967.
While attending college, Ronald met Monetta Respondek, who soon became the love of his life. Ronald and Monetta were blessed with a wonderful marriage that lasted over 64 years.
While attending college, Ronald began working for American General Insurance in their mail room. He continued working for American General throughout his entire career, eventually achieving the position of Manager of Data Processing and Operations. He was greatly respected by his staff and associates.
Ronald possessed a strong mechanical aptitude and was able to repair almost anything. He enjoyed completing projects around the home, especially those involving electronics. He also enjoyed barbequing in the back yard. His famous marinated steaks were the centerpiece of the family's holiday dinners for years. His seafood gumbo was an equally anticipated holiday treat.
Ronald had a life-long fascination with trains and was an avid model railroader. He was a member of the National Model Railroad Association and very active in the Lone Star Region chapter.
He retired at the age of 60 and enjoyed an active retirement life. He loved planning detailed road trips to attend model railroad conventions as well as visit interesting destinations along the route. These trips eventually encompassed visiting every state in the USA except Hawaii.
Ronald found his greatest joy in his relationships with his daughters and grandchildren. He was always their biggest fan and encourager, and never missed their ball games, competitions, or recitals.
Ronald's kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest in peace, Grandpa!
