Ronald "Ron" Gilbert Chambles, of El Campo, passed away at his home on March 5, 2024. He was born on August 28, 1936, in El Campo, to Gilbert "Gib" and Alice Chambles (nee Ellwood). He graduated high school in Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended the University of Houston, where he pledged Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration in 1962 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1963. Ron was a military veteran, serving in both the U. S. Air Force and the Air Force Reserves.
From his marriage in 1961 to Eva Ruth Selman came two daughters, Cynthia Anne, and Suzanne. In 1992, he married Betty Ruth Campbell (nee Wood).
Ron loved to fly, and in his younger days held private pilot's licenses for planes and helicopters, as well as a commercial pilot's license. He also loved to fish, hunt, play dominoes, and cook for his family and many friends. His greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandsons. He also had a huge group of cousins, too many to name here, but you know who you are and how much he loved each of you. Anytime the cousins could get together, that made his day. Ron attended the First Lutheran Church of El Campo and spent many hours tending the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery. It became his passion to maintain, in pristine condition, the cemetery where his parents and many other family members are buried.
Surviving are his daughters, Cynthia Lesko (Michael), and Suzanne Rain (Hunter McDonald, fiancé), grandchildren Megan Hawthorn (Benjamin), Allison Lesko, Alice Rain and Reef Rain, and great-grandsons, Nicholas "Nico" Colunga and Rowen Hawthorn. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Reese, sister-in-law Linde Chambles, and nieces Kappy Allen (Jeff Garrett), and Hattie Kuper (Shane), nephew John Chambles, and a very large, extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Larry Chambles, and a niece, Leigh Ann Larsen. The family would also like to thank Houston Hospice of El Campo, and his blessing of a caregiver, Lilly Rangel, for making his final days peaceful and calm.
A funeral service will be held on March 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church of El Campo. Immediately following interment of ashes at the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, a light lunch will be provided at the church. As the family considers this a celebration of Ron's life, please feel free to wear any tropical/Hawaiian, bright colored, or even fishing clothing that you might have. He lived in his Hawaiian shirts, gym trunks and, of course, his famous white tennis shoes, so we will celebrate him in his style!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, care of the First Lutheran Church of El Campo, or to Houston Hospice of El Campo.
