Ronald "Duke" Mathis, 77, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 5, 2025. A Seymour native, he was born October 2, 1947, to the late Joseph Houston and Roselena (Hall) Mathis.

Duke married the love of his life, Linda Diane Mix, on November 6, 1965. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He worked as a mechanic for Cummins, dedicating 35 years to the company before retiring from the Quality Control department. A mechanic at heart, he never stopped working with his hands-spending countless hours under the hood of cars and tuning up golf carts. Duke also found great joy in restoring classic vehicles and was a proud member of the Model A Restorers Club. Duke was a Master Mason with Seymour Lodge #146 and an active member of the Bartholomew County Shriners Hospital.

Outside of work and service, Duke had a passion for flea markets and collected vintage filling station memorabilia. His favorite getaway was the Smoky Mountains, a place he and his family visited often-sometimes twice a year. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, whose laughter and energy filled his heart.

Duke is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Steven Duane (Patti) Mathis and Joseph Houston Mathis; grandchildren, Jeremy Steven (Jami) Mathis and Diane Louise Mathis; great grandchildren, Jaylen Rose Mathis, Dante Sanchez, Randilynn Bland, Hope Mathis, and Willa Mathis; and sister, Patricia L. Mathis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; son, Roger Dale Mathis; brothers, Robert Joseph Mathis, Thomas B. Mathis and Michael L. Mathis; and daughter-in-law, Shelley Mathis.

Funeral services for Duke will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Pastor Tyler Tolbert of Central Christian Church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, August 10, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friends may call again on Monday beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., when Masonic rites will commence prior to the service.

Memorial contributions in Duke's honor may be made out to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. You are invited to visit our website, vossfuneralservice.com, to leave condolences or share a memory.
