Ronald Dane Smith, 79, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025.

He was born on October 16, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Clarence and Evelyn Smith, who preceded him in death.

Ronald was a proud father to Evelyn Smith, and an adoring “Papaw” to his grandchildren — Emery Jernigan (7), Mayzee Swails (2), and Kain Swails (1), who shared his birthday. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

A proud graduate of Decatur Central High School and Veteran of the United States Army, Ronald lived a life defined by service, dedication, and hard work. After his military service, he spent decades on the road as a truck driver, logging countless miles with steadfast reliability and pride in his work. His friends and colleagues knew him as dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand.

Beyond his career, Ronald embraced life’s simple pleasures. He loved riding his Harley, spending time outdoors, and, most of all, being surrounded by family. Known in his younger years for his wild and carefree spirit, Ronald found his greatest purpose when his daughter was born — a moment that brought him a new sense of peace and devotion.

He was a proud and active member of the VFW Post 111 and American Legion Post 103, both in Mooresville, where he enjoyed camaraderie and community with fellow veterans.

Those who knew Ronald will forever remember his warm smile, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family.

Ronald is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Pamela Summers; his parents, Clarence and Evelyn; and siblings Janet, Karen, and Skip.

His family takes comfort in knowing he is now reunited with loved ones who went before him, watching them with the same love and pride that defined his life.
