Mr. Roy Fowler age 59 of Carthage was pronounced deceased at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage at 11:39 a.m. Friday afternoon September 12, 2025 by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston where he was admitted to the facility on Thursday evening. He had suffered a fatal heart attack at his Jefferson Avenue East home a few days earlier and was revived with C.P. R. but never fully recovered.
Bro. Jim Wilburn will officiate at the 1 p.m. Monday afternoon September 15th funeral service from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Garden of Everlasting Life at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
The Fowler family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Monday only from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral services.
Mr. Fowler was born Roy Lee Fowler in Scottsville in Allen County, Kentucky on December 2, 1965 and was one of eight children and was the son of the late Oval Bill Fowler who died June 3, 2000 at the age of 76 and Georgia Ann Blankenship Fowler who died November 9, 2001 at the age of 63.
In Carthage on August 22, 1985, he was united in marriage to Smith County native, the former Georgia Mai Key, now a long-time receptionist at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Fowler was a former member of the United States Armed Forces.
He was a thirty-year employee of the Performance Food Group (formerly the Kennth O. Lester Co.) in Lebanon, first as a truck driver and before his death was a lift operator.
Mr. Fowler was a 1985 graduate of Smith County High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife Georgia of almost forty years are four children, Jason Fowler and wife Samantha of Carthage, Brandon Fowler and wife Vanessa of the Wartrace Creek Community,, Braeson Key of Gordonsville, Noah Key and wife Megan of the Difficult Community; six siblings, Earl Ray Fowler and wife Kathy of Carthage, Ronney Fowler and husband Jacob of Washington, Donnie Fowler and Wife Gloria of Carthage, Becky Key of the Elmwood Community, Martha Hagerich of Carthage and Elizabeth Fowler of Columbia; five grandchildren, Emily, Nikki, Nelli, Lily and Cole.
