Devoted Family Man
Roy A. Hinkelman, age 79, passed away with his family by his side, on Sunday, June 16, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Alberta (Perriello) Hinkelman.
Born in Waterbury on April 13, 1945, Roy was the son of the late Arthur and Marguerite (Dick) Hinkelman. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and had a successful career in a multitude of industries including restaurant services, manufacturing, and logistics.
A private, quiet man, Roy enjoyed a good cup of coffee, listening to oldies music, watching action movies, and he was an avid hockey fan. While growing up, Roy spent summers in Madison where his love of the beach began. Ogunquit, Maine was one of his favorite family vacation spots.
Growing up in Waterbury, Roy had a very tight group of lifelong friends, naming themselves the "North End Gang". He treasured his weekly coffee time with the guys and monthly get-togethers at IHOP with his high school friends. Above all, Roy cherished his family, especially his great-grandchildren and was happiest spending time with them.
In addition to Alberta, his loving wife of 58 years, Roy is survived by his two daughters Dawn LoRusso and her husband Lance of Waterbury and Denise Hinkelman of Oakville; his grandsons Brandon LoRusso and his wife Alison of Northford and Ryan LoRusso and his husband Justin Turrentine of Orange County, CA; and his great-grandchildren Ashlyn Marie and Kaia Noelle. He also leaves his sister Susan Dugan and her husband John of Yarmouth, Maine; his sister-in-law Dolores Murno and her husband Robert of Bristol; and his lifelong friend Gary DiPrimio of Thomaston as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur Hinkelman and his aunt to whom he was especially close, Charlotte Cone.
Roy's funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:00am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Roy's name may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or online at stjude.org. I am deeply saddened. I was just talking with him and Alberta couple of weeks ago. He was such a great great guy and him. Alberta were definitely soulmates rest in peace, my friend.

Roy was a special friend at Crosby High School and beyond. His wife Alberta and I graduated from Russell Grammar School together with Ted Fusco as well. Roy was always one of our most cherished members of the Crosby Bulldog
Breakfast Club of 1963 at our monthly meetings at the IHOP in Waterbury. Roy was always of good nature and quick of wit. He was genuinely a True Waterbury Guy all his life and he cannot be replaced. Capt. Ralph Rosa USA (Ret,)
