RICHMOND, IN– Roy I. Hutchens, age 70, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, May 23, 2025, at home following a lengthy battle with COPD.
Roy was born on September 17, 1954, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Harry Ernest and Ellen Jennings Hutchens. Roy was a 1974 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He proudly served in the US Army and US National Guard for a combined total of 33 years. Roy loved the 7 years being stationed at Ft. Campbell Kentucky and also visited Korea, Panama, and Germany throughout his military career. He loved to bass fish and play pool. Roy enjoyed coin collecting and designing crosses. He also liked to work on cars and attend car shows. Roy loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Karen Hutchens; sons, David and James Hutchens; grandchildren, Brielle and Natalie; sisters, Peggy, Ladora (Mike), Eda (Benny), and Edrea; brother, Earl (Mareen); nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
Visitation for Roy I. Hutchens will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, 20901 Pleasant Valley Dr., Sturgis, South Dakota at the family's convenience.
