Royce Donald Hill

GILBERTSVILLE
Royce Donald Hill, 97, of Gilbertsville, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown surrounded by his loving family. Royce was the son of the late Harold James and Sarah Faith (Olmstead) Hill; born on June 21, 1927 in the Town of Buttternuts. On August 8, 1953, Royce married the love of his life, Darline (Waller) Hill. Royce graduated from Gilbertsville Central School in 1946.
Royce was born a farmer, raised a farmer always a farmer. In his younger days, he hauled canned milk for local farmers. The Hil-Dar Farm was formed in 1953 and his son John eventually became a partner in the business. Royce was involved in many local organizations. He was a local Coop Delegate for Dairylea, Councilman for the Town of Butternuts, Councilman for the Mt Upton Agway store, Gilbertsville Fireman of the year for 1974. He was a member of the Gilbertsville Rod & Gun Club, the Christ Episcopal Church, and Alumni of the Gilbertsville Central School.
Royce, also known as Bunker Hill, enjoyed hunting, camping, walking on his treadmill, and traveling. His favorite pastime was woodworking and tinkering in his shop
Royce is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Darline; his children; Ann Marie, Marlene (Jake), John (Marsha), and Richard (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Charlene, Heather, Eric (Paula), Shawn (McKenzie), Will (Erin), Brandon, Christine (Tucker), Miranda, Bryant, Joseph (Kristina), and Calli (Michael). Royce is Survived by 10 great-grand-children, 1 great-great-grandchild and many, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Royce was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert and his wife Esther, nephew, Dennis, brother-in-law, Bruce Waller and sister-in-law, Sandra Bramam.
Family and friends are invited to his Calling Hours on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Christ Episcopal Church, 166 Marion Avenue, Gilbertsville. His Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Father Bill Lytle, officiating.
