Rozella M. Tinkey, 94, of Akron, Indiana passed peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, Indiana.
Rozella was born on Sept. 21, 1930 in LaPorte County, Indiana to the late Fred J. and Vera G. (Stahly) Holloway. She married on Sept. 2, 1950, at the Akron Church of the Brethren to Norman L. Tinkey, he preceded her in death on April 11, 2014.
She worked in the office of Wabash Tire for a while, then she became a wife and mother while keeping the books for her husband at his independent insurance agency and real estate brokerage. Later, she also became a full-time grandmother and eventually grandma great.
Rozella graduated from Burket High School in 1949, where she was a cheerleader. She faithfully studied Sunday School lessons and read her Bible. She was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren, where she was deaconess, music and worship leader, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. She played the organ for the church from age 12 till she was 91. She enjoyed music, word searches, baking, needle point, watching cooking shows, and especially spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Tana M. Tinkey, Akron; a son Byron and wife Christine, Akron; son-in-law Fred Bowser of Akron; grandchildren Brent and wife Aryn Bowser, Alyssa and husband Travis Ramsey, Le'Erick and wife Alexandra Bowser and Jonathan L. Tinkey; great-grandchildren, Dixie and husband Cody, Benjamin and Haley, Maison, Ella, Braiker, and Abbygaile; and brother-in-law Merl and wife Linda Tinkey of Akron.
Rozella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, daughter Lana Bowser, siblings Pauline and husband Kenneth Ryman, Betty and husband Richard Meredith, Arlene and husband Gerald Gearhart, Wade and wife Velma Holloway, Carlyle and wife Wilma Holloway, and Terry Weed, great-grandchildren Prim Ramsey and infant Bowser, brother-in-law Richard John Tinkey, and sister-in-laws Peggy and husband Garwin Eaton and Shirley and husband Larry Polk.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, April 25, 2025, in the Akron Church of the Brethren, 212 S. Maple St., Akron, with Pastor J.P. Freeman and Pastor Tim Troyer officiating.
The interment will take place following the service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 7 pm, Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Akron Church of the Brethren.
